Social Mobilization for Malaria Control in Ifelodun LGA
5/31/2018
Malaria Fever
On June 1, 2018, Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI), with support from ACOMIN through the Global Fund and SFH, strengthened community advocacy and behavioral change efforts to promote malaria prevention, early treatment, and improved health-seeking behavior in Ifelodun LGA.

Malaria remains a major public health challenge, and concerted efforts continue across multiple sectors to combat its impact. Governments, civil society organizations, private sector actors, and families all play critical roles in advancing sustainable solutions.
In response, Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI), with support from ACOMIN through the Global Fund and Society for Family Health (SFH), provided advocacy and community mobilization support aimed at improving appropriate health-seeking behavior and increasing demand for effective malaria prevention and treatment services.
A key component of the intervention focused on promoting malaria awareness through culturally appropriate communication strategies. Behavioral Change Communication (BCC) campaigns were designed and delivered to caregivers, healthcare providers, heads of households, and the general population. These efforts encouraged the adoption of preventive measures and timely treatment practices, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children under five experiencing fever and pregnant women.
Advocacy engagements were also conducted with policymakers, opinion leaders, religious and traditional rulers, and other key stakeholders to strengthen community ownership of health initiatives and ensure the smooth delivery of malaria-related services in Ifelodun LGA.
Through targeted interpersonal communication and collaboration with trained health service providers, communities in Ifelodun LGA were equipped with accurate malaria control information, empowering them to make informed decisions for themselves and their families.
This initiative reflects OCDI’s ongoing commitment to improving public health outcomes through community-driven advocacy and strategic partnerships.
