Who We Are

Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI) is a non-governmental, non-religious and non-political organization providing social services such as counseling, psychosocial support, empowerment, legal aid, welfare support and skill acquisition to women, girls and youths in Nigeria.

Our Mission

We promote the rights and empowerment of women, girls, youths and vulnerable groups through partnership, gender equality, and capacity building to enable social justice and help them live in a world free from poverty and diseases.

Our Vision

We envision a society where women, girls, youths, and other vulnerable groups enjoy gender equity, are empowered to cope with all life challenges, and live with dignity.

History

The organization was started by the CEO and her friends when she was asked to take up leadership responsibilities in Kwara State Polytechnic as the director of socials and the only female amongst all the executives. She realized the hassles young girls just getting into school face from older boys. She realized the girls lack skills to resist sexual pressure, they are non-assertive and lack refusal skills. Female students also felt she must be someone special and possess extra powers to be the only female in a male dominated environment. Sensitization and awareness program for girl in the school was carried out to address the issue.

We implement comprehensive programs that address the root causes of poverty, inequality, and social exclusion through community-based interventions.

Our Impact

At Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI), we empower women, girls, and young people through community-driven programs that promote education, protection, and health in underserved communities. Through safe spaces, mentorship, life-skills education, and sexual and reproductive health programming, we support adolescent and female sex workers with comprehensive HIV prevention education, stigma reduction, and access to accurate, age-appropriate information. Our interventions promote safer behaviors, increase knowledge of HIV transmission and prevention, encourage uptake of testing and referral services, and create supportive environments where beneficiaries can make informed health decisions without fear or discrimination. OCDI strengthens community protection systems by training mentors, educators, and community leaders on prevention, survivor-centered response, and referrals pathways. Our work increases awareness of women's rights, promotes safe reporting, and support efforts to break the culture of silence around violence against women and girls.

Success Stories

"After receiving support from trained mentors, a survivor of rape returned to school, regained her confidence, and now actively participates in Safe Space sessions in a more supportive and inclusive environment."
